About

Fiji Indian Association registered as an Incorporate Society on 1st September, 2019 to preserve and promote the Culture, Language,  Events and Interests and to provide timely Information for Fiji Indians living in New Zealand and overseas.

We endeavour to bring to you the very special attributes of being a “Fiji Indian” or “Findian” as known by some around the world.

Fiji Indians are decendents of Indian migrants to Fiji Islands brought by the British colonists as labourers to work on sugar cane farms. Over 60,000 Indiand were brought to Fiji as indentured labourers known as Girmityas. Many could not return to India after their term ended, due to econonic situations and others who chose to remain in Fiji to further farm and live in Fiji. Today Fiji Indians decendants  are spread all over the world most being in Australia,Canada, USA, UK and New Zealand.

Today Fiji Indians are contributing hugly to these overseas countries economically, culturally while keeping their Indian culture and Religious practices.
